I’ve been in Peachtree City a little over a month now. This past month has been one of adjustments and “figuring stuff out”. It’ll be a while longer until I feel fully settled- but I really did feel I was coming back to my home after a week away at confirmation camp two weeks ago. The saddest part was walking into my house and sorely missing the warm welcome of a pet(s). I may or may not have talked to and petted my bed.
Speaking of adjustments and confirmation camp….. After growing at Camp Luther, I admit that Camp Lutherock-situated in the western North Carolina mountains- is a real camp. Counselors wear backpacks. It takes 15-20 minutes to get anywhere. You’re out in the middle of nowhere. You hike up mountains. There is an intricate (and confusing) network of trails through the woods. All of this took Luther Marta a bit to get used to, but I did enjoy it. I could never work there, but I enjoyed it. I felt exhausted yet accomplished at the end of the week. If only I had access to a pool, a raft, and a People Magazine at the end of it all!
In other “figuring it out” news- I’ve started to Zumba! I joined World’s Gym and it has 2 Peachtree City locations- and tons of opportunities to Zumba. My first class ever the funky-chic instructor informed us all that her mic wasn’t working. I was freaked out at first but as it turned out, I learn choreography visually pretty damn well! My favorite part apart from the dancing is the mix of zumba-ing women (and men!) Chubby, skinny, old, young, coordinated, two left footed- you see everything. And everything includes a Judge Judy lookalike as a regular during one of my class times. Zumba takes me back to my Jazzercise days in Oak Harbor. It’s like a funkier, sexier, Jazzercise- and I can only hope that somewhere in Ottawa Co., former Jazzercise ladies of Oak Harbor are getting funky and sexy with some Zumba grooves.
How to live by myself in this intern house continues to be yet another thing I’m learning and figuring out. The breakdown currently goes something like this:
-Planning my meals and Tupperware-ing ahead of time like crazy
-My king sized bed
-Lounging in my bra and underwear on a nightly basis
-Sleeping in/taking naps without judgment or accountability
-Coming home to quiet after busy and “loud” days at church
-15 channels: including 2 local access, 2 home shopping networks, 1 Fundy Jesus channel with the likes of Joel Olsteen, and 1 Espanol (So, approx. 9 watchable channels)
-Limited ways to let my extroverted tendencies/needs out
-Conserving my limited internet plan (no streaming video. Sorry Netflix)
-Southern bugs. Big ones.
-Looking at my lawn on a daily basis and thinking, “I should do some yard work.”
Until next time,
